Preston Guild 2012

Today I went along to Moor Park, Preston to photograph the floats for the community procession which is part of Preston Guild 2012. I took a few portraits of some serving fireman who had an old fashioned fire engine and a horse drawn fire pump. I did some more photography of other floats, that were made up of local schools and community groups and organisations.

"Preston Guild is an historic celebration, which dates back to 1179 - sharing a heritage of over 800 years. It is the only Guild still celebrated in the UK and, as such, is truly unique. Held only once every 20 years, the 2012 celebration will be the first Guild in the 21st century and the first since the granting of Preston’s city status in 2002.

The Guild has a long history and has evolved considerably over the centuries - playing an important role in the developemnt of Preston as a thriving Lancashire city. However, the one thing that has always remained the central focus is people -the people who plan it, participate in it, promote it and the people who tell their stories of the Guild to children and grandchildren.

Residents, visitors, artists, businesses, athletes and performers – everyone gets involved in Preston Guild!"
